The latest version of MosaicOS, built on Android 17, has been released and offers useful new features in several areas. The update not only brings new features and a more visually appealing interface but also represents improvements in security, customization, and convenience for everyday use. The system is now based on Android 17. The GrapheneOS source code has also been updated, and the release includes the security update from August 5, 2026. This means that, in addition to new features, users also receive up-to-date protection.
More Flexible Navigation and Screen Protection
The new version offers customizable three-button navigation, which may be convenient for those who prefer traditional Android controls. At the same time, the system also supports gesture-based navigation. This not only provides a more modern and, according to many, more convenient user experience, but can also help protect the screen. Having static navigation elements appear in the same place for long periods of time can increase the risk of screen burn-in, so using gesture control can help mitigate this. You can also enable screen rotation, which can be particularly useful for those who frequently use their phone in landscape mode—for example, in a car, on a stand, or with an external keyboard.
Advanced Quick Settings
The WiFi tile has become more responsive compared to the default implementation, making it faster and smoother to access network settings. The flashlight tile is now more informative: it displays the flashlight’s current brightness as a percentage. Vibration can be configured separately for the quick flashlight feature. This setting is independent of the system’s general vibration settings, giving users more freedom to decide whether they want to receive feedback when using the feature.
Adjustable White Balance
White balance can now be adjusted in the display settings. This allows you to change whether the color white appears in a cooler, more bluish tone or a warmer, more yellowish tone. This feature can be useful for those who are more sensitive to the display’s color temperature or simply want to customize the display to their personal preference. By selecting the appropriate setting, you can make using your phone more comfortable in a variety of lighting conditions.
A More Customizable Network Traffic Monitor
The network traffic monitor has also been significantly expanded. The new settings panel offers several options that allow users to customize the appearance to suit their needs. For example, you can choose to display network traffic information in the notification bar, in Quick Settings, or in both places. The format of the indicators can also be customized: the system can display arrows, text indicators, or a combination of both. When traffic information is displayed as a single line of text, the font size can also be adjusted. This can be useful on smaller screens or for those who prefer larger or more easily readable text.
Bug Fixes and Fine-Tuning
This update fixes several previous bugs. The handling of profiles not running in the background when sharing the clipboard has become more transparent, so the feature now works more predictably when using different profiles. In the Launcher, we’ve resolved an issue where the double-tap-to-sleep feature and its corresponding setting weren’t always in sync. We’ve also fixed an inconsistency related to enabling rotation, so the feature’s status and settings should now more accurately reflect each other. We’ve also improved the QR code reader tile, making it more reliable for everyday use.
New Look and Enhanced Data Protection
Beta7 comes with a new boot animation and updated wallpapers, giving the system a more modern look. The sources and dependencies of the applications have also been updated, and we’ve brought the translations up to date as well. One of the key new features of this release is SecureDNS. This feature uses DNS-over-TLS to encrypt the device’s DNS lookups and blocks some ads and trackers. As a result, networks and your internet service provider cannot see or modify the names of the websites you visit based on DNS queries. It’s important to note, however, that SecureDNS does not make your internet activity completely invisible: your IP addresses are still visible to networks and your internet service provider.
MosaicOS, which is based on Android 17, offers more up-to-date security, more flexible navigation, a more customizable network traffic monitor, adjustable white balance, and new privacy options. The developers have also fixed several previous bugs, while updating the system’s appearance with a new boot animation and wallpapers. The new version only reinforces our previous goals: the importance of greater control, personalization, and a system built on data privacy.
