When we use an AI model, we usually don’t stop to think about what happens after we send our question. Yet a prompt can easily contain personal, business, or other sensitive information.
That’s why, in the development of TimothyChat, data protection isn’t just an afterthought, it’s one of our core principles. Conversations can be stored in encrypted form, and users can choose between local storage in the browser and server-side storage. In addition, TimothyChat uses API-based access in the background, so there’s no need to maintain a separate user profile with each model provider.
But there’s one important thing we don’t want to leave out. Local storage doesn’t mean that the AI processes the prompt locally. If you request a response from an external model, the request must be sent to that model’s provider. TimothyChat also doesn’t automatically anonymize what you type into the prompt.
That’s why we don’t just want to talk about data protection, we want to transparently show you how it works. TimothyChat’s goal: multiple AIs in one place, while ensuring you retain control over your data.
